Students win in FFA competition
At a recent FFA livestock competition, 15 out of 19 GHS students placed.
Students must enroll in an agriculture class to participate in FFA. Essentially the student gets an animal and feeds it to a certain weight and look. Students take the animal and show it off and a judge will examine it and students get placed.
“When you do sales, you get money back for doing good and it just goes more toward your animal project,” sophomore Alexis Bolliger said. “So you don’t actually sell your animal to those people they just give you money to further your project.”
Not only are they learning leadership skills but also getting insight on future careers.
“To be competing against other schools feels good but also bad because we are only freshman and sophomores.” sophomore Gavin Standard said. “To be part of FFA to me means to be part of a family.”
Students have created a personal connection.
“FFA is the largest student land organization and there is reason for that.” Sponsor Derrek Coffee said. “We put students in those situations that allow them to grow and be prosperous in whatever they choose.”
