A parent donated a reusable Christmas tree to band to put in the band hall.

Band wanted to start a Christmas tradition by putting up a Christmas tree and making ornaments each year to decorate it.

“Me and one of my friends wanted to decorate the band hall,” sophomore Malissa Marin said. “We told the section leader, Will, that we wanted to put a Christmas tree up so they got one and then we put it in the band hall.”

Band members met during CAVE and got to decorate it with their own ornaments.

“We had an ornament decorating party,” Marin said. “Since most of the kids in band play cards they put a deck of cards as one of the ornaments and one of the drummers put his sticks on the tree.”

New traditions along with the Christmas tree are being started like Secret Santa.

“At my old school, we didn’t put up a Christmas tree,” Marin said. “And with the Christmas tree we get to do Secret Santa.”

Students also have ideas of their own for new traditions.

“I want to start a tradition of wearing Santa hats for Christmas concerts,” sophomore Matthew Winkley said. “It adds some more Christmas spirit to the event.”

A Christmas tree is adding to the Grizzly culture and setting traditions for years to come.

“The students are making great traditions and setting the tone for future members,” band director Kim Shuttlesworth said.
