Staff Stance: CAVE time should be moved to increase student performance
CAVE isn’t being used to its full potential, it’s just becoming a time to slack off and sit around. CAVE should be used to work on homework, missing assignments or making up a test. We should move CAVE to the end or the beginning of the day. The way it is right now, many students gets to slack off during that period besides a few that actually want to work .
CAVE has it advantages and disadvantages. Students come in and try to fix grades that they missed when they were absent or fix work they did poorly on. It’s a time for individualized attention from teachers.
But teachers have noticed that many students come and sit on their phones or talk.
If we moved CAVE to the beginning of our school day, it would give the students a chance to finalize any papers that they have due that day. They can cram for an upcoming test, or work on group projects. Fewer students would fail or have missing assignments. We could also move it to the end of the day so students can work on any assignments they just received. But in the end it’s all about how the students use their time.
Currently CAVE is between second and third period, which isn’t necessarily bad. It gives students a chance to take a break halfway through the school day. But students don’t always know or realize how much homework they’ll have by that point in the day, which impacts how students use the time.
We should move CAVE to the beginning of school so students can finish their assignments before they have to go to class, or we should move it to the end of the day so students can work on any work they just received. We need to change the way CAVE works because right now it’s not efficient for the students.
