Christopher Wintle teaches Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Practicum in Business Management. On top of teaching, he helps run the school store and is the sponsor for DECA. He has been teaching for seven years now with this year being his second at Glenn.
He enjoys the outdoors and music which ties together into his love for concerts. The two have always been a constant in his life..
Q: What has drawn you into teaching Business Management?
A: “It’s not really about the subject I’m teaching. It’s more about teaching kids. I really enjoy seeing that light bulb moment when kids think things might not be achievable, but then find the path they’re heading and start to see things are achievable. That’s what is fun for me.”
Q: How long have you been teaching and is this something you always expected yourself to do?
A: “This is only my seventh year of being a teacher. I never really thought I’d be a teacher but I absolutely love it.”
Q: How do you prepare students for real life business situations and for careers?
A: “I give them the opportunity to work in the school store. It doesn’t get more real life than that. They work with people they don’t know, or people they may not get along with. Overall they are doing customer service and they get to learn how to track money and handle it.”
Q: How has it been in charge of DECA and how is the management of it?
A: “When I first started doing it, it was very overwhelming. I have never done anything like that before. But after getting the right people in place it is easier this year– it’s been more fun.”
Q: How do you feel about the amount of people going to state from DECA for this year?
A: “This year is the most that we’ve had for Glenn. Last year it was 17 and this year it is around 29. I’m very pleased with the success we are having. That speaks to having the right students in the officer positions and they’re doing the right things to help the other members.”
Q: What types of concerts do you like to attend and what type of fan do you think you are when attending?
A: “Seventies rock , 80s, 90s hip hop and I was [also] into country. But I’m more of a quieter fan. I mean I sing along but I’m not an obnoxious dancer. I’m here for the nostalgia really.”
Q: What is a favorite place to head to when seeking outdoors?
A: There is a place in Utah called Moon Lake. That’s somewhere that I have gone almost every year for my entire life. It is a special place for me to go to.
Q: How would your high school self feel with your current self?
A: “I think my high school self would be shocked. I would only go to school because I have to. But my high school self will be proud. I feel like I am doing well even as a teacher.”
