On Oct. 29, Student Council hosted the 3rd annual “Tunk or Treat” with the help of other school organizations in the Glenn Union.
The purpose of Trunk or Treat is to provide a safe Halloween experience for community members, usually tailored toward younger audiences. This entails a lot of preparation where the members use their class time and off periods to decorate the Union. This year, StuCo dressed up as characters from the Disney movie Inside Out, having the president, Mia Cardona-Reyes, as Riley and officers as the emotions.
“We were like all hands-on deck with all the class members rushing to get everything done,” Cardona-Reyes said. “I feel really happy seeing how we are serving our community by allowing kids to come and have a great time, sharing with us.”
This year drew a much larger crowd than in previous years with some parents discovering this event for the first time.
“This is the first time I’ve come, usually I’m working in a practice at this time,” athletic trainer Molly Kidd said. “It’s more people than I anticipated, but you guys did a great job, putting a great effort into the themes. It’s been awesome.”
Due to the large turnout, most club tables saw lines of up to 20 people waiting for candies and games. Some clubs ran out of candy within the first hour of the night.
“I think the lines for the kids weren’t exact, and we can see a lot of mess, just a recommendation,” parent Luz Dary Silva said. “But otherwise, everything was very nice, with a good initiative and a very wholesome event.”
The event started at 6 p.m., but people started to trickle in around 5:30 p.m., with a good number of kids, and lasted until 7 p.m., with kids leaving happy with their candies, waiting for next year’s Tunk or Treat.
“I really love events like this, it’s a great opportunity to get the club known to others and to give back into the community,” junior president of Skill USA Elianora Mariano said. “I hoped for more events like this for next year, or like a Christmas market could be super fun.”
