Glenn High School hosted its 10th annual homecoming parade last night.
The “Tune Town” themed parade paid homage to numerous cartoons and TV shows from the past and present. The lineup consisted of various student organizations, staff members, and younger students zoned for Glenn. Immediately following the parade, a community pep rally was held in the competition gym. There, support was rallied for the upcoming football game against Georgetown’s Eastview and members of the homecoming court were introduced.
“Homecoming is just the best week,” junior homecoming prince Erick Martinez said. “Especially when it comes to interacting with the community. Me and Megan decided to run again because we won it during our freshman year and we thought it would be fun to do it again.”
The night ended with the announcement for the winners of the best parade float. The first place spot went to the “Super Mario” themed girls’ soccer float. Second and third place were granted to girls’ basketball and PALS.
For only having a week to prepare the float and discuss ideas about it, the team completed the float and presented it to the public.
“Honestly I was surprised we even won,” senior girls’ soccer team member Bailey Felan said. “We didn’t even know what we were doing for our float at the beginning of the week. Compared to last year and the year before, our floats were kind of sad, so being given first place after our experience in the previous years felt unreal. My favorite part of it all was definitely putting it together with my team. It was a good way to bond and everyone putting on mustaches was hilarious.”
Beyond the results of the competition, the parade also offered opportunities for students to participate in their community as well as interact with them.
“Honestly walking through the parade was my favorite part,” freshman girls soccer team member Berkley Kilpatrick said. “You know we all kind of got dressed up and everything, and I was in a little Luigi costume and I got to talk to people in the Luigi accent. I love all the excitement around homecoming and the parade so it was definitely a fun time.”
