Under the beaming California sun and below the moving stage lights, Coachella once again proved why it’s one of the most exceptional music festivals in the world. The vibrant environment from performances to celebrity appearances captivate fans throughout the globe.
However, Coachella is more than a music festival, but a fashion runway. The fashion scene was as much of a spectacle as the performances. There were many eye-catching outfits this year as stylists and artists took their outfits to an entirely new level.
To start off, Lisa from the K-pop group BLACKPINK changed outfits five times during her performances. Each performance contained a new style, but the most eye-catching outfit was during Coachella week two when singing her song ‘FXCK UP THE WORLD (feat. Future)’ where she unleashed a ‘villain alter ego’ in a red reptilian bodysuit. Lisa brought in designer Asher Levine to help bring her ‘alter ego’ to life. This all-in-one outfit sent shivers down fan’s spines and enhanced the stage presence she had. Paired with the song, this set the mood and showed a new side of Lisa.
Another breathtaking outfit is none other than Lady Gaga who is known for her intense style during performances. Other than her extravagant opening at the festival, her ending performance was even better both musically and fashionably. Gaga performed her hit song ‘Bad Romance’ for her finishing song at Coachella. Not only were fans stoked about the iconic song, but her outfit was fiery. The white bodysuit she wore has a bloody red cross, white wings and a skirt made of white feathers which was designed by Matieres Fecales.
The next outfit was from a newer artist, Benson Boone. While performing the famous ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen, he wore a jumpsuit inspired by Freddie Mercury. The jumpsuit was designed by Dolce & Gabbana and was a flamboyant blast from the past in 70s style. This outfit and the performance broke the internet as Boone went viral once again on social media as people talked about the fashion choice.
Other than stunning outfits, Thundercat performed with Yo Gabba Gabba and wore a unique tabby cat costume. The outfit gave a nostalgic presence on stage along with Yo Gabba Gabba since they haven’t performed since 2010. The costume gave a very childlike aura and created a fun environment for the audience.
From Thundercat’s cat costume to Lisa’s dragon-like bodysuit, this year Coachella proved once again that music and style go hand in hand. When paired together on stage, magic happens.
