Freshmen speak to spirits
A time for pumpkins, goblins, witches and ghouls is here. Halloween is an iconic holiday when you can be whatever you want and fantasise that the world you imagine actually exists.
Along with the black cats and spooky music, there are many other things that make this holiday unique from others. However, this Halloween season took somewhat of a dark turn. The arrival of the Ouija Board intrigued a group of students to delve deeper into the realm of the unknown.
“The day I bought the Ouija Board, my friends really wanted me to bring it to school,” freshman Conner McBride said. “I snuck it in my backpack.”
The Ouija Board, also known as a Spirit Board, has been said to be a method of contacting the dead.
“Conner had gotten the board that weekend,” freshman Danny Williamson said. “He really wanted to show everyone.”
Ghosts can be a very controversial topic. There are many unexplained phenomena happening all around us.
“I’m on both sides,” freshman Max Redden said. “I think it’s more of an involuntary movement of you and your body.”
There are some people who claim that they believe all aspects of the Ouija Board and other spirit games are real.
“I believe it’s real,” McBride said. “In seventh grade, my friends and I contacted something that we thought wasn’t real but then it strange things started to happen.”
People who have used the Ouija Board have reported several instances in which they have come to contact with the dead, whether that spirit be good or evil.
“A long time ago when I also used the spirit board with my friend, it affected me negatively,” Williamson said. “I would wake up with scratch marks on my body.”
The board itself has also been said to be a portal for evil spirits and demons. Reports of a demon named Zozo has been a popular spirit who only shows up to do harm.
“Whenever I was younger, a random guy would be in the corner of my room and he would talk to me,” Redden said. “He would just sit and speak to me.”
Whether the Ouija Board is real or if it’s just a simple toy, the idea of another realm obtaining something we may never see with our eyes is a complex concept.
“I would probably look more into this,” Williamson said. “I find it very interesting to connect with spirits and learn about them.”
